Privacy Policy

Last Updated: [DATE of website launch]

Model Citizen LLC (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates publicappealthemovie.com (the “Site”), a promotional website for the independent film Public Appeal (the “Film”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect from visitors to the Site, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. Information We Collect

1.1. Information You Provide Directly

When you use the contact form on the Site, we collect the information you enter, which may include your name, email address, and the content of your message. We only collect what you choose to submit.

1.2. Information Collected Automatically

Like most websites, the Site uses Google Analytics 4 (“GA4”) and Google Tag Manager (“GTM”) to understand how visitors use the Site. This automatically collects information such as:

  • Pages viewed and time spent on the Site;
  • Referring/exit pages and general browser and device type;
  • Approximate location derived from your IP address (typically city/region/country level — GA4 does not store your full IP address);
  • General usage patterns, such as how you arrived at the Site and what you clicked on.

We use this information only for basic website analytics — understanding traffic and interest in the Film — and not for advertising or ad personalization.

1.3. Cookies and Similar Technologies

GA4 and GTM use cookies and similar technologies to distinguish you from other visitors. See Section 5 below for details on cookies and your choices.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to messages you send through the contact form;
  • Send you marketing communications about the Film (such as release updates, festival screenings, or where to watch it) — only if you have opted in to receive them;
  • Understand aggregate website traffic and improve the Site’s content;
  • Maintain the security and proper functioning of the Site;
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own independent marketing purposes.

3. Marketing Communications

If you provide your email address and affirmatively opt in (for example, by checking a clearly labeled box indicating you want to receive updates about the Film), we may send you marketing emails about the Film.

You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link included in every email, or by contacting us at contact@publicappealthemovie.com. Even after unsubscribing from marketing, we may retain limited information as needed for legal, recordkeeping, or suppression-list purposes (e.g., to honor your opt-out).

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share information only with:

  • Service providers who help us operate the Site and communicate with you, such as Google (for GA4/GTM analytics), Osano (for cookie consent management), and MailJet, which stores and sends communications to our opt-in mailing list. If you submit your email address to sign up for updates, it is transmitted directly from our own form to that platform’s systems; we do not embed that platform’s own signup widget or tracking scripts on the Site. These providers are only permitted to use your information to provide services to us.
  • Legal and safety reasons, if required to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Company, our visitors, or others.
  • Business transfers, if the Film or Company’s assets are transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale, in which case information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5. Cookies and Your Choices

The Site uses cookies set by GA4 and GTM for analytics purposes. Depending on your location, we handle this as follows:

  • If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the UK, or another jurisdiction requiring opt-in consent, the Site uses a cookie consent banner, powered by Osano, that detects your general location and requires your affirmative consent before any non-essential analytics cookies (including GA4/GTM) are set. Your consent choices are also passed to Google via Google Consent Mode so that analytics tags respect your preference.
  • If you are visiting from California or another U.S. state with similar privacy laws, you have the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell personal information, and — because advertising/ad-personalization features are not enabled in our GA4 configuration — we do not believe our current use of analytics constitutes “sharing” under these laws. If that changes, this Policy and the Site’s cookie controls will be updated accordingly.
  • You can also control cookies through your browser settings, which let you block or delete cookies. Blocking cookies may affect how the Site functions but will not prevent you from viewing informational content about the Film.

6. International Visitors

The Site is operated from the United States and may be visited by users from other countries, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere. If you access the Site from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. By using the Site, you consent to this transfer.

7. Your Privacy Rights

If you are located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom

You have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion of your information; restrict or object to certain processing; request portability of your information; and withdraw consent at any time (for example, by declining or later revoking cookie consent, or unsubscribing from marketing emails). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If you are located in California or another U.S. state with a comprehensive privacy law

You have the right to: know what personal information we have collected about you; request deletion of your personal information; correct inaccurate personal information; and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (noting again that we do not currently sell or, to our understanding, “share” personal information under these laws). We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at laronda@kemetmovieworks.com. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests.

8. Data Retention

We retain contact form submissions and any marketing-related information for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your inquiry, maintain our marketing list (if you’ve opted in), and comply with legal obligations. Analytics data collected via GA4 is retained for 14 months, the maximum period available on a standard GA4 property, after which raw event- and user-level data is automatically deleted. This setting does not reset with continued activity, so each visit’s data ages out on this fixed schedule. (This retention period applies only to raw analytics data used for ad-hoc analysis — it does not affect aggregated, anonymized reporting, nor does it affect information you submit directly, such as through the contact form, which is retained as described earlier in this section.)

9. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures designed to protect the information we collect. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children’s Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at laronda@kemetmovieworks.com so we can delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
